Pax Gallery is Open!

Looking InI am pleased to announce that Pax Gallery is officially open.  Some of you know that I’ve been working on opening this gallery for nearly a year; some of you are wondering what I’m talking about.  For those in the second category, let me explain what we’re about:

Pax believes that great art transcends all boundaries; geographic, economic, social, political, personal, spiritual. The artists in Pax Gallery have created works in harmony with this philosophy, emphasizing themes of unity, harmony, family and community; affirming the strength that they have to overcome oppression and injustice.

Pax currently represents artists from Congo, the heart of Africa.  As Pax grows we hope to represent artists in other regions of the world who create beauty in the midst of adversity.

To anyone visiting Pax, we offer great art.  To the artists, we offer a great opportunity.  In countries like Congo with immense poverty, choosing a career in art is itself a choice of poverty.  With most of the community struggling to meet basic needs, customers for art are hard to come by.  Conversely, in a country like the US that has an abundance of resources and where every new idea is turned into a commodity, something uniquely beautiful is hard to come by.   Pax has licensing agreements with our artists, so they receive a royalty from every print sold.  We also have established what we call a “community royalty”; a payment made to the artist’s community in recognition of the way artists are shaped by their environment and as our contribution towards a better future.  Pax is partnering with a non-profit organization active in Congo to invest in health, education and economic development.  When you buy a print from Pax you get something amazing to display in your home, and you do something amazing for an artist and his community in Congo.

You can participate in this new adventure; join us at the inaugural art exhibition on February 22nd.  The gallery will be open from 10 am to 6 pm.  Come hang out, enjoy some great art, savor some refreshments and generally have a good time.

Also, to celebrate new beginnings, all art prints are 10% off during the month of February.  Just place an order on line and enter “Grand Opening” as your discount during check out.  I hope to see you on the 22nd.
