Unlike many of his contemporaries, Tataa’s works are diverse and span genres.  Tataa finds inspiration in faith, in family and in his heritage.  His work “Famille Masque” (Family Mask) beautifully illustrates the close relationship of family members, each one completing the other.  Tataa has been painting since 1986.  He studied at the Academie des Beaux Arts in Kinshasa and then worked under the guidance of an established local painter.  Tataa is part of an association of artists who are working with the government to create opportunities in their community.  I asked Tataa if he saw hope for improvement in Kinshasa. His response: “This is my home.  I always have hope.”
